Kids Clothes Inspired by Colombia: The Stories Behind Every Collection

Behind every Pepita & Me collection is a real place in Colombia: a Caribbean island, a misty Andean moorland, two oceans. Discover the stories that inspire our prints and the...

Colombia is not one color. It's the seven-shade sea of San Andrés, an island in the Caribbean where the water changes tone the further out you swim. It's the warm road that leads away from the mountains and into the lowlands. It's the green of the páramo, a misty highland found almost nowhere else on earth. It's two oceans, and Sunday afternoons with family.

It's also one of the most biodiverse places on the planet,  home to more bird species than Europe and North America combined, and the only country in South America with coastlines on both the Caribbean and the Pacific. There is no shortage of stories to tell.

At Pepita & Me, every collection begins right there. We don't treat Colombia as a pretty print, but as the starting point of every design. Behind each piece is a real place, a landscape, an animal or a memory that children can discover, recognize and carry with them.

We believe that dressing children in these stories is also a way to open a window to somewhere else  to spark curiosity, to start conversations, and to make getting dressed a little more meaningful. Because clothes can also be a way of telling where we come from.

This is how each of our collections is born.

Isla Bonita: the colors and life of San Andrés

Isla Bonita was born on San Andrés, a small Colombian island in the Caribbean known for its painted wooden houses, its palm trees, its iguanas, and a sea so clear it shifts through seven shades of blue as you wade in.

Every print has a real origin. From Casitas Isleñas, inspired by the island's traditional architecture, to Sea Flower, a tribute to the Seaflower Biosphere Reserve and the natural richness of the Colombian Caribbean.

It's a collection made for days of sun, beach and pool, swimsuits, guayaberas and breezy pieces that carry a piece of the Caribbean into every adventure.

Tip Pepita: the prints in Isla Bonita connect to one another, so the same design can be found on a girl's swimsuit, a boy's guayabera, or even in our Mamá & Me and Papá & Me lines. A simple, special way for the whole family to wear the same story.

Tierra Caliente: the road to the holidays

There is a Colombia that appears between the cities. In Spanish, we call it tierra caliente the warm lowlands. It begins the moment you leave Bogotá, Medellín or Cali behind and the air starts to feel different.

It's the fruit stands on the roadside, the swimming pools at the farmhouses, the mountains changing color, and the cousins you only see on holidays.

Tierra Caliente comes from that feeling every Colombian family knows: the excitement of the drive, the warmth on your skin, and the joy of arriving somewhere time moves a little slower. It's a collection inspired by the colors and energy of the country's warm lands, made for days of swimming, road trips and rest.

I Do Care For This Bear: the Andean bear and the páramo

Not every story from Colombia is warm and coastal. Some live high in the mountains, in the mist and cold of the páramo,  a rare high-altitude ecosystem found only in a handful of places on earth. And they matter just as much.

I Do Care For This Bear is inspired by the Andean bear, also known as the spectacled bear. It's the only bear species in South America, it lives in Colombia's high mountain forests, and it's one of the country's most loved  and most threatened animals.

It's a collection that turns getting dressed into a conversation about nature.

Tip Pepita: this collection is a lovely excuse to talk to children about the spectacled bear and the mountains it calls home. The prints spark questions: who is this bear, where does he live, and why does he need our care? Clothes become a way to learn about the world.

Tornasol: the world beneath the sea

Colombia has two oceans, and Tornasol looks toward that marine life full of color and movement. It's a collection inspired by exploration by the curiosity of discovering what lies beneath the water with sea prints that invite a closer look.

Perfect for the children who dream of becoming little ocean explorers.

Life is a Picnic: the joy of being together

And then there's the Colombia that doesn't need to be a faraway destination  the one that lives in any family sharing a moment, in a park or a backyard that feels like their own, and in knowing how to make an ordinary Sunday feel special.

Life is a Picnic comes from that joy of simple, shared things. Fresh, colorful pieces for everyday days  the ones that end up being the most remembered.

One shared root: Colombia

What connects all these collections isn't a single print, but a shared root: Colombia and its stories. Each one starts from something real  an island, a road, an animal, an ocean, an afternoon with family and turns it into something children can wear.

That's the Colombia we illustrate at Pepita & Me: the sea, the mountains, the warm roads, the animals, and the memories we hold close.

Frequently asked questions

Are all Pepita & Me collections inspired by Colombia?

Most have their roots in Colombian places, animals or landscapes. Some start from a very specific reference, like San Andrés for Isla Bonita or the Andean páramo for I Do Care For This Bear, while others come from a more universal feeling that's still Colombian in spirit, like Life is a Picnic.

Can pieces from different collections be mixed together?

Yes. Even though the prints vary, the Pepita & Me design language connects them all, so they can be mixed without any trouble.

What age range do the collections cover?

All collections run from baby sizes up to age 14, with some adult pieces in Isla Bonita through our Mamá & Me and Papá & Me lines, so the whole family can match.

Do the prints change every season?

Our collections are renewed over time, so availability of each print may vary. The best way to see what's in stock is to browse each collection in the shop.
